Pedodontics treats children’s dental diseases through techniques that are more suitable for their needs. It is usually believed that milk teeth do not require care and checks, but this is not the case as they cover various important functions. Since the oral health of children is essential for their general development, the pedodontist has specific training able to meet the needs of each pediatric patient, in terms of clinical, psychological and relational approach. The basic activities of pedodontics include the accurate assessment of the child’s dental health status through a preventive visit and interventions for the prevention and treatment of dental pathologies, such as teeth cleaning, dental fillings, tooth extraction from milk, endodontic therapy, pediatric orthodontics, the treatment of dental malocclusions and the planning of periodic interventions to evaluate and maintain dental health. In general, in fact, pedodontics strives to make children’s dental experience as positive and trauma-free as possible, providing a comfortable and reassuring environment for childhood and respecting their need for understanding, affection and play.
